David R Black - Silence And Sound

Mighty Atom

Rating - 6/10

Review Simon Bray

I note that in my review of David R Black’s Heart and Stars album from last year that Silence and Sound wasn’t a song that I referenced at all. I have to admit that this may well be somewhat of an oversight by my good self, for it is actually a pretty good piece of power pop which reminds me in places of Fountains of Wayne. It’s punchy, catchy and is powered along by crisp guitars. If there was still a chance for independently released rock music to chart then I’d suggest that this would be in with such a chance.

Dark Halo on the other hand, which is the other song on the single, is taken from a radio session and isn’t quite my cup of tea. It’s acoustic and to be honest doesn’t grab me at all and almost certainly won’t ever get another spin. Still, with both songs clocking in at slightly over four minutes in length, at least there’s some degree of value for money.

David R Black can’t be accused of not paying their dues. They are on a headlining tour for the last couple of weeks of March before supporting The Mission in Europe and the UK.
