Da Vinci - Back In Business

This, the second Da Vinci album, was originally released way back in 1989 (all of seventeen years ago for those of us who are mathematically challenged) and has long been a firm favourite with this reviewer. This is mainly due to the fact that the tracks contained on 'Back In Business' are all of top notch quality. This is simply Scandie AOR at it's best, think Europe circa Out Of This World or Treat and you won't go far wrong in terms of comparisons. OK so the album is of its own time. At times it is keyboard heavy but when guitarist Gunar Westlie is given the leas he produces some exquisite guitar solos and with songs such as opener Touchdown, the lyrical of fun of 9 and 10 and the catchy as hell Millions Like Us, then even after seventeen years there is still a lot to be impressed with. Just listen to Pink Champagne and tell me it doesn't go to your head.... As with many bands of this genre and time Da Vinci broke up due to a lack of record company interest during the recording of a third album, and it is the sessions for this never released CD from which Back In Business' bonus track, 'Blame It On The Radio' is taken and judging from this song mores the pity the album was never finished. Back In Business is an absolute must buy for any fan of Scandie AOR if you didn't pick it the first time around. And even if you did, the digital remastering and bonus track makes this reissue an essential purchase to replace that worn out vinyl... |
