Conquest Of Steel - Hammer & Fist

No Face

Rating - 9/10

Review John Consterdine

If you haven’t heard of Bradford boys Conquest Of Steel, you must have been living under a rock. Clad in denim and spikes these proud flag bearers of the UK metal scene have been spilling the blood of false pretenders for years. They’re like a cross 3 Inches of Blood playing Iron Maiden, but influenced by everyone from Kiss to Raven and Ozzy to Bathory.

“I Am Legend” is a magnificent opener to the album with galloping guitars and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) style vocals. “A Million Strong”, “Born In Hell” and “Lamentations of War” all have the power to tear you to shreds within the first two bars of the song and “Taste The Metal” is a future metal anthem boasting lyrics such as “Gotta’ taste the metal drink it down, gotta’ taste the metal hear the sound, gotta taste the metal one last time as you die”

“Warrior’s Guide” and “Call of the Wild” keep the metal flowing until “Under the Sign (of the Skull and Crossbones)” where Conquest briefly dabble in pirate metal and tales of the seven seas, before rounding off the album with the mighty “May Your Blade Never Dull”.

Conquest Of Steel are bringing back the balls to metal, whether they take the scene by force or we accept them with open arms however is a very different matter…
