This EP is a foreword to the forthcoming release of “Capital” the final installment in the trilogy of albums “The 253” and “London Is Sinking”. “This Gun Is Not A Gun” and “The Day The Earth Stood Still Part 1” are songs that lyrically show a songwriter who has social awareness and isn’t frightened to stand up and tell the world what he’s thinking. This openness and honesty are refreshing in today’s manufactured and trend led musical climate. The songs sound earthy and organic with no studio trickery in sight. “In The Dressing Room” is a super catchy sing a long style indie romp that also employs some very clever harmonies and guitar chords giving it a very cool flavour. It will have your foot tapping along in no time. The final track on the EP is “This Gun Is Not A Gun” (acoustic demo) which, thanks to the stripped down arrangement, draws attention to Chris’s lyrics. Chris is a great talent who can get straight to the heart of the matter thanks to his incisive and revealing lyrics. At times I wished he would be a bit more emotional with his vocal delivery as sometimes his singing was a bit too all on one level, surprising perhaps when one considers the attention he has obviously put into the subject matter. He could add a whole new dimension to his sound if he would spit the lyrics out a just little bit more. |
