The Cedar Falls - Our Angels Wait EP

The Cedar falls are a young three piece hailing form the South West of England and this three track EP is the bands debut release on the abandoned records label on the Sept 18th 2006. The band are purveyors of what I would call post grunge rock. Opener 'Our Angels Wait' is rather an angry punk influenced affair driven along by the drums and bass and then topped off with the stunning vocals of main man Jay. For some reason this is reminiscent in style to fellow Brit newcomers Brigade. Track 2 'Easy To Float' sees a complete change of pace for the band with it’s delicately picked guitar intro and laid back vibe. This is definitely a cool, late night track but then steps up a gear as the song draws to its conclusion. The third track featured on the EP, 'The Wire Also', kicks off with what I believe to be a bass solo (Billy Sheehan eat your heart out, mind you these guys probably don’t know who he is) before heading into more funky territory. With a heavier, almost Pearl Jam vibe this brings the EP to a close all to soon. To quote the press release “Emotive vocals and melodically laden guitar riffs and original take on alterative rock “ that does stick in your head - couldn't agree more for once.. Jay has great future with his voice and I, for one, will definitely be looking forward to hearing the bands full length debut album . I guess the biggest compliment that can be paid is that my long suffering wife likes this a hell of a lot, which is a rare occurrence these days..... |
