I’ve been after a copy of this album for months now thanks to some good reviews. However as far I’m aware the bloody ting has only been released in Finland. Why Finland? Well Finland just happens to be homeland of Nightwish and Brother Firetribe’s guitarist just happens to have a day job with that band. If it had not been for a fellow founding member of the AOR anoraks Newcastle branch who was kind enough to send me his copy via carrier pigeon, I would still be looking for this great album, an album that has absolutey no right to exist in this day and age... Why? Well if I played this to you blind it is highly likely you would believe that False Metal was an unreleased Mid 80’s pomp/aor classic. Well close, whilst bearing uncanny resemblances to the likes of Saga, Virginia Wolfe, Treat, Shotgun Symphony and too many others of that era to mention, it was in fact recorded and released this year... Don't believe those reference points? Well go listen to 'Devils Daughter' and then tell me that it doesn't sound like Virginia Wolfe. False Metal is without doubt a throw back to great albums of yore. Big vocals, huge guitars and massive songs that are catchy as fuck. Most definitely the best album of this type that has been released this decade and if you have a fond rememberance for the days when this was the norm then this is the album for you... |
