Bluesky Research - True Spirit (single)
Research Recordings

Bluesky Research are a Portsmouth-based 5 piece band who are one of the many up and coming British indie-rock bands around at the moment. This release is a double-A sided single, put out on their own Research Recordings label. In terms of style there are definite overtones of The Verve and particularly The Stone Roses, which may come as no surprise when you learn that the band have supported Ian Brown and the band’s Charlie Waddington co-wrote the track “Sweet Fantastic” on Brown’s last studio album. Production duties are handles by Greg Haver, who has worked with Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals and who knows how to get the right sound for the genre. It’s a little too “tinny” for my liking, but that does not detract from what are two really well written and constructed songs. I particularly liked “True Spirit” with its excellent piano / drum intro which builds into a really catchy verse with some excellent harmonies going on in the background. If these two tracks are anything to go by, then in my humble opinion I think we’ll be hearing a lot more from this talented bunch and whilst it may not appeal to a diehard rock audience, I think more mainstream and indie fans will love it. |
