Blessthefall - His Last Walk
Ferret
Rating - 2.5/10
Review John Consterdine

Blessthefall have been around since 2004, and since then they have refined their sound, drawing influences from the likes of Underoath, Alexisonfire, As I Lay Dying, aspects of pop, hip-hop, rap and R&B (apparently). Listening to opening track “A Message To The Unknown” you can see that, yes, they have taken aspects of those influences to try and create their own sound, using meaty riffs and death metal style vocals. Then as second track “Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad” kicks in you realise that they are using the same formula for each song, a poorly recycled and repackaged Swedish death metal band. A more accurate example would be My Chemical Romance trying to cover The Haunted, badly. Blessthefall are being very typical of the current trend in metal, heavy riffs, screaming singers and they stick to a very simple pattern. The problem with His Last Walk is that, whilst opening track, "Message To The Unknown", isn’t bad, all of the subsequent songs sound just like it, but with less enthusiasm. His Last Walk doesn’t have any stand out tracks on it whatsoever, however the hidden track at the end of “His Last Walk” should be avoided at all costs, and the bonus track is an acoustic version of “Rise Up”, which is much worse than the original version. |
