Badmouth are a traditional hard rock / metal band based in Sweden and this, their 6-track debut EP, has just been released. Originally formed under the moniker Yankee Rose, that outfit disbanded back in 1991, only for two of the original members, Mike Hill and Chris LeMon to reunite in 2007, determined to give it another go. They enlisted the help of lead guitarist Randy Joy and then vocalist Tom Pearson, before rounding out the ranks with drummer Rick Hard. Reflecting a very modern trend, the band relied heavily on networking site MySpace to help promote the band and two of their songs were featured on their home page. The plan worked as different record labels became interested and two tours, in Europe and the US, have already been lined up for 2008. I would encourage you to visit their site to hear for yourselves what all the fuss is about. They have also signed with promoter Ed Dorsey who has worked with the likes of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, YES and Annie Lennox amongst others. This is a good reflection that Badmouth obviously have something about them and the more you listen to the EP, the more this becomes evident. By their own admission, they are nothing original, but they do claim to be unique and as hard as I tried to think of a comparison to give you an idea of what they sound like, I struggled, so maybe they are right… There are a lot of different elements present, reflecting their diverse list of influences which range from Guns N Roses to Johnny Cash and from Metallica to Elvis. I would probably best describe the style as driving hard rock, but I think it best to just ignore the labels and just enjoy the music for what it is. I think we will be hearing an awful lot more of Badmouth as time goes by, as their infectious brand of rock will appeal to a very large cross section of fans. A very promising and exciting debut, which I am confident will be the first stepping stone to bigger and better things. Let us know your views on Badmouth
