Reading the promotional material that came with release I would say that these guys are not dealing with a full deck and don’t take life too seriously (more of this later). Listening to the album only goes to confirm they are indeed barking but that they do possess some talent. Favouring the Sheepdog vomiting style of delivery as used by the Cookie Monster this three piece make a right old racket, but are immense fun if also at the same time talking complete nonsense. Napalm Death doing punk springs to mind. John Peel would have loved it. The songs have similar daft and anarchic themes but locked in almost every song is some rather tasty musicianship. These buggers might be clowning around but behind the façade they could play if this was their day job! Indeed, should Gunface (aka Mike McKenzie) decide to actually sing on Revelry (track 4) rather than growl his way through it, it could easily be something from the NWOBHM. Stricken has a storming riff, all thrashy proto-punk and bowls along at a pace, then slows down and moshes out, then back up to full speed and a race to finish. I can see why Metal Blade released this, as it will be very popular with the European doom thrash crowd and I suspect a complete hoot live at a festival. Some early Venom pops up now and again (surely not! A three piece singing about the devil, NEVER!), Feral Dreamer being a song in point. So in short this won’t be to everyone’s taste but it is a weird and wonderful bag of laughs and riffs. It surprises and deafens in equal measure, which is unique and surely, in this day and age of soundalikes, should be applauded. To finish off I give you the final paragraph from the promo blurb I got with the album which seems to sum up this weird bunch perfectly. “The band continue to make rock n’ roll the way the universe intended, by including wolves, werewolves, head-banging, dinosaurs, volcanoes, thrashing, lava storms, beer, boulders, stuff getting blown up, stuff getting kicked, Viking’s tearing shit up, death metal, bears eating people, nature kicking humanity’s ass HARD, whirlwinds of doom, low growls, wings of a heavy metal demon spinning out of control in a tornado of destructive energy, owls, hamburgers, mountains, kicking your ass, craters and chasms swallowing you whole, giants, stone wizards, lizards and lizard wizards, epic landscapes and partying that is so brutal you will dissolve into a puddle of worthless crap..” I told you, completely hat stand!
