Airbourne - Running Wild

Review Al Hay

The name Airbourne may not be familiar to rock fans in the UK, but believe me when I say it soon will be.

Hailing from Australia and aged between 18-22, brother Joel and Ryan, Roadsy and Streety are getting rave reviews in their home country and much critical acclaim. In fact this band are regarded as such hot property that they have already secured support slots to the Rolling Stones and Motley Crue.

Fresh from recording their debut album in Los Angeles the band are looking to show the UK just what Airbourne are all about live and will be over here in March 2007 on a comprehensive tour with Irish rockers The Answer. (See gig guide for dates).

Their debut single, “Running Wild”, is released to coincide with the tour and, after being sent this copy to review, I urge every lover of good time hard rock to get themselves along to one of the live shows. "Running Wild" is a glorious, nigh on four minutes, of foot to the floor, no nonsense rock. It’s plain and simple, uncomplicated and (I’m going to swear here) fu**ing perect. This music brings back the glory days when all you needed was guitar, bass, drums and a singer who walks the walk and talks the talk. The song is just irresistible and in seconds you’ll be tapping your foot, nodding your head and grinning from ear to ear.

I had to check the ages of the band members as I was floored that such youthful rockers could nail this music so well. If there is such a thing as “school of rock” let me tell you these guys have passed with honours degrees. Remember the first time you heard AC/DC and the way the drums and bass were tighter than a gnats arse and the guitar riffs sent you on your own little Highway To Hell? Well Airbourne bring back those heady days and emotions but put their own stamp and character on it all. Indeed their music is tailor made for the stage and without doubt this lot are going to make a lot friends on the forthcoming dates.

I’ll be catching the band at their show at Northumbria University on Tuesday March 6th and if everything goes to plan will be interviewing the band for all you Hard Rock House readers. Airborne are ready for take off so get on board and come along for the ride with a band who are shaping up to be one of the hard rock sensations of the year.
