A Tortured Soul - Kiss Of The Thorn
Eyes Like Snow
Rating - 8/10
Review John Consterdine

The opening track of A Tortured Soul's debut album Kiss Of Thron namely, “Tomorrow’s Door”, starts with catchy, technical Megadeth style guitars then they add to the melee with some King Diamond/Rob Halford vocals in addition to some Black Sabbath rhythm. The band have quite an epic sound, almost like Iced Earth in places, but with much more technical elements. “Not Tonight” is something you would have expected Iced Earth to make when Tim Owens was in the band, instead of the under par “Framing Armageddon” album. Lots of excellent guitar work and Rick Black’s vocals again come across as a mixture of Rob Halford and Ozzy Osbourne, both high and mighty and low and eerie. Generally A Tortured Soul seem to have all the elements to become a great power metal band, combining elements of heavy metal and doom with raging guitar parts. With “Cut and Bleed” the band have gone for a Dio era Sabbath sound, with riffs that Tony Iommi himself would be proud of. Further stand out tracks are “Altar Of Sangria” and “Parasite”. Whereas some bands have tried to copy their influences, A Tortured Soul have mashed all of theirs together to create something truly evil. Not bad for their debut album!
