A Day Called Desire - A Day Called Desire EP

Rating - 7/10

Review Paul Williams

A Day Called Desire are a young British 5-piece Alt Rock band whose self-titled 5 track EP is about to hit the racks.

I think I could best summarise their sound as Linkin Park / Evanescence backed by Iron Maiden which is a slightly different proposition in a genre filled by so many bands all desperately trying to sound different, but ultimately so often sounding just like any one of a hundred other bands.

In Danny Crossan they have a vocalist who could easily stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best names in the Alt Rock scene and his quality alone is enough to elevate the band beyond the majority of their upcoming peers for me.

I am also particularly interested in their Iron Maiden influence, which is extremely evident on the opening couple of tracks, “City Of The Dead” and “Start Of Something New”. There’s a melodic metal tinge to the sound which is again different and, in my opinion, superior to many of the other similar bands I’ve heard.

Obviously A Day Called Desire are at an early stage in their career but this EP shows definite talent and promise and I really hope they can build on this great first effort and put together a quality full length release. I would certainly make every effort to catch them live if they play any shows in my area and I would highly recommend them to anyone into Alt Rock whilst even those with a more mainstream hard rock / metal liking may well find something to savour here.  Keep it up lads !!!
