9 Days Down - A Sign Of Things To Come

9 Days Down have come a long way since their 2 track demo, featuring “The Belief In Your Own” and “Act Of God?”, which was released back in 2005. But now there back and are unleashing their album upon the world! Kicking off the album in style is the re-recorded “Belief In Your Own”, which sounds like Mark Hunter (Chimaira) with Pantera as his backing band, combined with a melodic, almost Killswitch Engage style, chorus which is extremely catchy. “Me Against Myself” highlights Grant’s amazing ability to go from a death metal growl to a melodic harmony, almost like a cockney Rob Flynn (Machine Head) mixed with Brock Lindow (36 Crazyfists). “Act Of God?” is a powerful track that deals with everything from terrorism to the holocaust and questions, like most people, why did this happen? However 9DD have added extra guitars, bass and drums, so it not only questions the existence of God, but it rocks at the same time! “Ideology” is a metal anthem like Metallica’s “Seek and Destroy” or Anthrax’s “Caught In A Mosh”. With lyrics like “Your ideology sounds like insanity like Nazi’s and white supremacy” and an excellent solo courtesy of Mr. Tyler it has to be one of the best tracks on the album. “Epilogue of War” on the other hand is something you’d expect to hear on a Bolt Thrower album however, instead of a military grindcore track, it sounds more like Lamb Of God playing Emperor covers. “Beaten Down” sounds like something you’d find on a Shadows Fall album if Tom Araya (Slayer) was their singer. Imagine the lyrics from “War Ensemble” being sung over “The Light That Blinds”. “Risen” is more melodic than the other tracks, with thrash style verses then a breakdown chorus with melodic sung lyrics, which is done very well.“Integrity” is an excellent way to end the album, it is groove metal at its very best, it’s just a shame the album has to end so soon! All in all, this album sounds like a pneumatic drill exploding in your ears! Hopefully 9 Days Down will be touring the UK very soon, so look out for them in a town near you, as this album certainly is a sign of things to come from this British metal quartet! |
