Takota
Interview Dougie
|
Formed in Anaheim, California, in 2005, Takota released their debut album, 'The Ivory Tower',a year later and have just finished a spell on the road in the UK with Plain WHite T's. HRH found out a little a more about the band from frontman Grant Arnow. To kick things off, Grant introduced the member of Takota: - GA - I'm Grant Arnow, singer for Takota. Our other members are Brett Anderson (guitar), Danny Roddy (bass), and Justin Ferreira (drums) Takota were formed from the ashes of Spindle, how does the music of the two bands differ? GA - Takota's a rock and roll band. We love big, sweeping melodies, and loud, driving rhythms. We're proud of the fact that we aren't similar to any of our contemporaries. Each of us traveled a long and winding musical road before Takota began, and our experiences have allowed us to focus on creating the sound that makes us most happy.
With that in mind, how was Takota formed, did the band all known each other in advance? GA - I met Justin at Orange County's longest running all-ages venue, Chain Reaction. Brett and Danny were in a band together prior to Takota. Justin and I met Brett and Danny through Myspace, of all things. The internet saved our lives. Who are the bands heroes and musical influences? GA - We're varied in our influences. Certainly, arena rock bands from all eras and perspectives, but also all sorts of indie/lo-fi/electronic and metal. Anything with strong melody. For me, today? Journey, the Afghan Whigs and Oasis. In my review of your debut album, Ivory Tower, I referred to the bands music as melodic punk/emo, how would you describe it someone who has never heard Takota before? GA - Music to fall in love to. As I only had a promo copy of the album, which didn't list song writing credits, how is typical, if there is such a thing, Takota song written? GA - We work through a song together. Once it's form is clear, I'll write lyrics that suit the muse. The band are currently on tour with the Plain White T, how are you going down with their crowd? GA - The kids have been fantastic; we love them. Touring with the Ts is great. They're doing well on the radio right now, and their fan base is widely varied. Ours is the same generally; people from all sorts of backgrounds, old and young. Fans of rock music. What sort of set are you playing as support to the T s? GA - Six songs, fast and furious. We get the crowd going.
I believe you're working on album no.2 at the minute, how's that progressing? GA - We're half way done with it. Work will resume as soon as we're home from England. It's sounding huge, and we're all excited. We'll finish it in the Fall, play regional shows around Los Angeles through the Holidays, light the fires in the New Year and tour for the rest of our natural lives. And finally, the standard HardRockHouse question. Is there anything further you would like to mention that we haven't covered so far? GA - We love England, and we love Indian food. Long live the Queen. To find out more about Takota then you can visit there website @ www.takotamusic.com and to read the HRH review of their Ivory Tower CD click here |
