Steve Holt - 36 Crazyfists
Interview John Consterdine
|
You kicked off your tour last night in Birmingham, how did that go?
Steve Holt
(guitar):
It was awesome, we started a little nervous because we just got off
a tour in the states with Kittie and we were only playing a 25
minute set, so we were throwing a bunch of new songs into the set
that we hadn't played in a while, but we remembered it pretty easily
and it went over alright. SH - Yeah it’s gonna be awesome we're playing lots of smaller venues and it’s sold out for the most part and it should be a really fun tour just packed crowds. We're not looking forward to anywhere in particular we just wanna play everywhere we love it over here. Recently someone in Germany was selling your first album, “In The Skin”, signed by you guys for £50, what do you think about that? SH - Wow! To tell you the truth I think we only made 1000 of them or something, so I don't even have one but I’ve heard of it popping up on eBay a few times for ridiculous amounts of money, which is kind of strange. I believe Roadrunner didn’t want to release “Rest Inside The Flames” in the USA? SH - DRT released it, we had to licence it out because Roadrunner didn't wanna put it out in the States for a long time and we were like nah that ain't gonna work. How do you think “Rest Inside The Flames” was received? SH - I think it’s done really well over here but in the States it’s been pretty slow. It came out over here 7 months before it did there so most people downloaded it and already had it on their ipod’s when it came out over there, but that’s kind of the way it works now. You recently finished a US tour with Kittie, how’d that go? SH - It was alright, there was a really cool line up, there was a good mish-mash of different stuff. Dead To Fall are a really heavy almost death metal band, In This Moment were a really cool band with a female singer, [Then with help from Thomas (Noonan – Drums) who's in the fridge across the room] Walls Of Jericho who are just awesome live, Candace [Kucsulain – Singer] is insane live, but yeah it was really good, there was a good mix of hardcore kids and all the different kinds and it was just awesome. You played a few shows with Atreyu last September, was that to get you noticed by a wider audience? SH - Yeah, you know it was to play to people who wouldn't normally come to our shows or whatever, that tour was a lot of fun and they were all really big shows but I tend to like the smaller shows better. But yeah the main idea was to get out there for people who wouldn't normally hear us. Is there a link between the last two album covers, going from a frozen heart to a burning one? SH - We started thinking of stuff for ”Rest Inside The Flames” and then we were like lets just go with the heart thing again! We just threw the idea to the guy who did the artwork last time [Asterik Studios] and that was one of the first ideas he did and we were like alright that’s it and we just went with it. Do you have any idea why your first album over here had the lyrics to Hatebreed’s “Rise of Brutality” inside the booklet instead of the lyrics to “Bitterness The Star”? SH - I know how weird is that? There was a batch they did like that. Thomas [from across the room]: Did Hatebreed have our lyrics? No the Hatebreed one had their own lyrics in it SH - Oh did it? [laughs] We have no idea why that happened, we've seem them before and were like what the hell, it’s just crazy. What are your plans for the rest of 2007? SH - We're actually gonna do this tour then go home and me and Thomas are gonna start writing some new stuff, take a little bit of time off, we may do another tour in the summer but its looking like we're gonna focus on writing the new record and get things moving in that direction. There was talk of us doing Reading and Leeds but I don't think that’s gonna happen we're just gonna focus on the record. What do you think of My Chemical Romance headlining download? SH - That’s strange, you know what i don't like their new record I think it’s horrible, but i didn't think the last one was that bad. They headlined above Slayer at Reading and Leeds last year SH - That’s crazy! I don't know that’s weird What do you think about the whole emo genre, will it be like nu-metal and die out? SH - Absolutely there’s so much of it now its already on the downfall, its like *sigh* pffft! |
